Call Out
Maryport Lifeboat was requested to launch by Belfast Coastguard after receiving a call from the owner of a small pleasure craft, that had engine failure, approximately 1 mile west of Maryport. As the pagers sounded, the team was quickly on station to launch the towns lifeboat, ‘e-on Spirit of Maryport’ & made best speed to the reported position of the vessel.During this time, a crew were deployed to the shoreline to assist from a vantage point, offering additional visual aid & communications.Along side only minutes after launch, crew was transferred to the casualty vessel & safety checks undertaken. With no apparent water ingress and agreeing that engine failure was caused by a flat battery, a tow line was set up and a short tow back to Maryport undertaken. A short tasking on a calm Solway, with great team work to conclude a textbook operation.

Call Out
Tasked by Belfast Coastguard after they had received multiple reports of a dog in trouble north of Maryport, with people concerned about the owner entering the water. The team was quickly on station & launched the Towns Lifeboat, e-ON Spirit of Maryport & proceeded to make best speed to the area of interest, just north of the harbour entrance. As the team left the harbour, welcomed news was received, that the dog had left the water and their owner didn’t enter the water in the end. The team returned to station, where the boat and equipment was washed, fuelled and made ready for service.

CGOC Belfast
While launching on Sunday following a request by CGOC Belfast, our launch vehicle and boat trailer become lodged in the harbour mud allowing the tide rise over the cab and render the vehicle inoperable. We have been able to recover both vehicle and trailer however the launch vehicle used to put the lifeboat into the water for both call out and training purposes is no longer usable. The service will still operate on a restricted availability with the lifeboat currently being berthed in the Marina, and will be available during tidal hours. The team are looking at various new launch vehicles and are pushing hard to bring the service to full capability soon. We would like to thank MPM Northwest for their assistance yesterday who recovered the equipment, along with Willie Poland, Lou Humphreys and various fishermen that were on hand to assist throughout the day and Maryport and the surrounding district for their continued support.
